Now, I actually enjoy and love AGDI's King's Quest II: Romancing The Stones.  I think it's a great game - I really enjoy playing it.  The first time I played it, was like playing a new (old) Sierra game like I did when I was a teen in the early 90's.

But it's not the King's Quest 2 I knew.... it's totally an alternate storyline story.

I would actually like to play a 1:1 remake of the original KQ2, though.  Or at least a more traditional remake - without so many story additions.

Who else would?

I have always preferred a 1:1 remake of games. While I can understand the desire to add more meat to a rather sparse game it's very hard to pull that off without making it feel like padding. Don't get me wrong, AGDI did a fair job adding to the game and it played well enough. I just never really cared for the changes. Perhaps it's my nostalgia getting in the way. Some of the additions just felt weird and out of place to me and I just didn't feel they were necessary. I think a 1:1 KQ2 remake with a more traditional style would be pretty cool!

With all remakes, I'd like them to take the approach that Sierra took with the SQ1VGA remake.  Not totally 1:1, but close, and with refinements that only improve (without over-complicating or confusing) the original design.  That said, I actually prefer the original AGI SQ1 graphics to the remake's, but that's another discussion.

So my answer is yes, but with the stipulation that some additions and adjustments could be added, though not a major plot overhaul.

I don't really want the exact remake. I'd prefer to play something like SQ1 remake (I  mean without that 'The Father' stuff).

"Who is this one person who does not want a straight re-make?" you may ask.

I personally don't think there needs to be dozens of different versions of the same game. A 1:1 remake is a bit of a strange concept, by merely changing graphics, sound and interface you may find that it has unintentional effects on the rest of the game (a problem I'm sure the people behind King's Quest III - v3.0 are aware of). A change in graphics may result in a puzzle being inoperable and needs to be altered.

The point is, that in my opinion; If you want a game that feels like the original, just play the original. I have no stem of nostalgia for the original, since the first time I even played it was earlier this year, however I still love the game, but think a 1:1 remake may (or may not) be a lost cause.

When most people think 1:1 I think they are focusing mostly on story and basic puzzle ideas. Atleast that's what I focus on. Things will always be different between the two versions. That's the point of a remake after all. The main goal with a 1:1 remake is to not go crazy changing things, especially story, because it can change the feel of the game. You stay true to what the original game had. In the long run the goal is to try and capture the feel of the original game with better graphics so people can experience it again in a fresh way.

It'd be nice to have a straight remake, since one doesn't exist. But I prefer changing all the art to look a little different instead of the constant traceovers that fan remakes have all the time. Sierra never once copied the exact same background when they remade something. It was always redesigned even if just a little. That's what I'd want to see. No traceovers.

It's also be nice to have a "+'d"/fleshed out remake of KQ1.

If anyone ever remakes KQ2 in VGA I'd be happy to help with sharing the information I've learned on how game events are handled and programmed while working on KQ2SCI.

It would be grand, no doubt about it, but there are plenty of projects that would hype me much more than KQ2 1:1.

KQ2 1:1
or
KQ4 VGA, SQ3 VGA, Camelot VGA, Colonel's Bequest VGA, Gold Rush VGA, Manhunter VGA, LSL2 VGA, LSL3 VGA, PQ2 VGA, QFG: Realm Of Sorrow, SQ: Planet of Sorrow, SQ0 VGA, LSL4, QFG3+, QFG5-... How many of these pairing would KQ2 VGA 1:1 win?

But I still want to get my hands on KQ2SCI.

I know this post is almost a month old, but I had to give my feedback.

I would love to see 1:1 remakes for all the classics, but this one especially.

It was rather dissapointing to play the KQ2 remake due to all of the unnecessary plotline changes, as well as some of my most fond memories of the game including the 'Multi-coloured' door. (They changed it to a rock ... seriously?)

I would have liked to see a remake similar to KQ1 ... I also prefered I.A.'s version of KQ3 to AGDI's version.

Just my opinion.

I agree with everyone else, a remake kind of like SQI VGA is the way to go... or like King's Quest III (maybe somewhere between IA's KQIII and KQIII redux with it a bit closer to IA).  AGDI's KQII was interesting but its not necessarily a favorite.  Not just the major changes, in a way I think it kind of modernized the fairy tales and made them ironic and dark instead of straight-forward retellings... something that to me wasn't really keeping in the spirit of King's Quest.  Then the Father storyline, often fan fiction writers have this desire to make EVERYTHING tie together when maybe it shouldn't... with TSL doing the same sort of thing.  I really don't prefer it that way.

Still don't want to sound too negative, I like it.  But I would like a basically 1:1 remake a lot as well.  Although if I were a designer I don't know if it would feel quite as worth it to me as it would if nobody had already done a remake.

I'd love to play an IA original.  I'd like to see a new QFG-type game.

Honestly KQ2 was just sparse and the way AGDI handled it was amazingly well done. Most of the time when people try to add to the remake it ends up being awful but they actually pulled it off really well. If this thread was fishing for a new IA project I could probably pull 5 titles off the top of my head that are more deserving/in need of remaking than KQ2.

We don't fish for projects. There's a hundred ideas around here at any one time.
