Point and click. First game was King's Quest V, but I worked my way both backwards and forwards through most of Sierra's offerings, save for Gabriel Night and Phantasmorgia.

My first game we brought home with our brand new Tandy 1000 was The Black Cauldron. King's Quest followed soon after that one.

Klytos.. yes
As for Clowns in Hospitals... they irreparably scarred my two children who had multiple infant teeth removed and upon recovering from the surgery were bombarded with "so called" humorous clowns which did not help at all. Now maybe my kids are abnormal, but I can honestly say they coped better with the surgery than with the clowns Mimes forever! |

My very first adventure/rpg game was HACK on the pc.
Heh.. I remember playing for hours on the first level.. not knowing how to descend to the next one! After that it was all Sierra for a loooong time! |

I think I have to agree with this idea of nostalgia being more about the surroundings rather than the experience. Most of the games I played had so much more to do with when and where I was rather than the game itself.
It explains why games like zork, planetfall, lsl, gold rush, black cauldron are so high on my favourites, yet when you play them back, you have to wonder ![]() |

My first ever was KQ1 on my families PC Jr. It was on a cartridge not even floppy. That would have been around 1984? Not sure when KQ came out, but that was the first. The black cauldron was a close second.

People will believe whatever they want to believe. Right now, there's millions of people who think some Sky Wizard is watching their every move right now and judging them.
Just because millions of people believe something doesn't mean it's true. I believe in Evolution. Why? God told me. Bt |

Although I've watched over the shoulder with some parser based stuff, and have since played those and text adventures - My first adventure game that I played on my own was the 16 color "LOOM". Great start, although there were a few puzzles right toward the beginning that had me totally stuck, and it wasn't until years later, (when I had more adventure smarts) that I actually got off the dang island and saw how awesome the rest of the game was!
Yep, the 16 color, no voice pack version. Although there was the cassette tape included with the game, that had a 30 minute Voice Acted Drama that totally set up the game, with an orchestrated score, and sound effects and everything! I Love that Tape! It was VERY Dramatic! You hear about Bobbin's mom, and how she turned into a swan by the Elders shortly after Bobbin was "born" out of the LOOM, and how Bobbin went up to the hill every year on his birthday to catch a glimpse of his mom (although he was never told that it was his mom). That is a totally great game. Even for 16 colors, the art is amazing. I really wish I could go back and find an mp3 of that 30 min drama. Would be totally sweet, I'd love to listen to it again. |
